St. Catherine’s Monastery, Red Sea, Jordan

Moses spent his life in Egypt – 40 years in Pharaoh’s palace near Luxor, 40 years in the Sinai desert where God spoke to him from the burning bush, and then 40 years wondering with the Israelites in that same area in Sinai. The very place where Moses lived after fleeing Egypt at age 40 was the same place the cloud and pillar of fire brought him back to when he led the Exodus. He knew the land well after living there for 40 years. The burning bush is at the foot of Mt. Sinai where Moses received the 10 Commandments and the Israelites built a golden calf when they didn’t think he would return. There were 48 Exodus stations in the 40 years that the Israelites lived in the desert. We toured St Catherine’s Monastery, and saw Moses’ burning bush.

We were amazed at the ruggedness of the mountains as we continued to drive through the Sinai Desert, before coming to the Red Sea. We walked along the shore of the Red Sea, and cupped it’s water into our hands.
